Copart Canada charges a $79 gate fee (flat — no clean/non-clean split as in the US) and a $10 environmental fee. Sales tax is applied to the bid plus fees, which is this tool’s assumption — Copart itemises tax separately on the invoice but does not publish which base it uses, so this is the higher figure to budget against.

Quick Answer

Copart Canada adds a tiered buyer fee, a virtual bid fee, a flat $79 gate fee and a $10 environmental fee to your bid, then provincial sales tax of 5%–15%. On a C$3,000 Live bid paid by a secured method the fees are C$788, and the Ontario (13% HST) all-in cost is C$4,280.44; in Alberta (5% GST) the same car is C$3,977.40. Copart publishes no CARFAX fee and no title fee for Canada.

Copart Canada fees breakdown showing a winning bid plus buyer fee, virtual bid fee, gate fee and provincial sales tax adding up to the total cost in Canadian dollars
A Copart Canada win stacks a buyer fee, a virtual bid fee, a $79 gate fee and a $10 environmental fee on your bid — then your province’s GST/HST/PST on top. This calculator adds them into one CAD total.

How Copart Canada Fees Are Calculated

Copart Canada bills in Canadian dollars on its own schedule — not the US one — and then provincial sales tax (GST, HST or GST+PST) is added. Your all-in cost is:

Total = Bid + Buyer fee + Virtual bid fee + Gate fee + Environmental fee + Tax
The buyer fee is tiered by the bid and depends on whether you pay by a secured or an unsecured method; above $15,000 a percentage replaces the table. The virtual bid fee is tiered by the bid and higher for a Live bid. The gate fee is $79 flat — Canada has no clean/non-clean split like the US — and the environmental fee is $10, not the US $15. A broker fee is an optional input and starts blank.

The tax base here is our assumption, not a Copart rule. Copart’s Canadian payment guidance itemises the sale price, taxes and auction fees as separate invoice lines, but nowhere states whether tax is calculated on the bid alone or on the bid plus the fees. This calculator taxes bid + fees because that is the higher of the two and the safer figure to budget against. If your invoice taxes the bid only, your total will come in below the estimate rather than above it.

Copart Canada Buyer Fee Chart 2026 (CAD)

The buyer fee is the largest charge, and Copart Canada prices it in two columns: one for a secured payment and a dearer one for an unsecured payment. The unsecured figure is higher at every one of the 38 brackets, not just on expensive lots. Below $15,000 the fee is a flat bracket amount; from $15,000 it becomes a percentage of the bid. This is the Standard tier — fewer than five vehicles a year, which is every private buyer.

One thing worth knowing if you go looking for these numbers yourself: Copart publishes the Canadian schedule on copart.com, not copart.ca — the Canadian domain’s member-fees page renders with no fee table in it at all.

Copart Canada Sales Tax by Province

This is the part most fee calculators skip, and it moves the total more than any fee does. The combined rate runs from 5% to 15%, so the same car costs hundreds of dollars more in Ontario than in Alberta. Pick your province and the calculator applies the right rate:

Gate and Environmental Fees — and What Copart Canada Does Not Publish

Only two flat charges are published for Canadian sales, and both are in the calculator’s total:

FeeAmount (CAD)When it applies
Gate fee$79Every sale — releasing the vehicle. Flat, with no clean/non-clean split
Environmental fee$10Every sale. Lower than the US $15

There is no published Copart Canada vehicle-history fee, and no title fee as a named line item. This calculator used to add both to every total, which inflated the result by $57.60 with nothing behind it. They are gone. Copart Canada does sell a separate Vehicle Condition Report as an optional product — if you buy one, add it yourself; it is not part of the standard sale.

Three more things are genuinely absent from Copart’s Canadian pages, and we would rather say so than print a number we cannot stand behind. Storage, late-payment and relist charges are not on the Canadian fee schedule — they come from the Member Terms, the yard and your invoice. Membership fees and any deposit are not published for Canada either, so do not assume they match the US figures. If you want to see what a fully published, day-by-day late-and-storage table looks like, Copart UK does print one, and it is set out on our Copart UK fee calculator page.

How to Use the Copart Canada Fee Calculator

  1. Enter your winning bid (CAD)

Type the high bid you expect to pay in Canadian dollars. The buyer fee and virtual bid fee are both worked out from this amount.

  2. Choose the bid type and payment method

Pick Live bid or Pre-Bid, then Secured or Unsecured. Secured is the wire or certified-payment column; unsecured is the card column, and it costs more at every bracket — $175 more on a $3,000 bid before tax.

  3. Select your province

The rate is applied to the bid plus the fees. On a $3,000 secured Live bid that is the difference between $4,280.44 in Ontario and $3,977.40 in Alberta.

  4. Read the breakdown

Add a broker’s own fee only if you are bidding through one; it starts blank. The panel then itemises every fee, the sales tax and the all-in total, plus fees and tax as a percentage of your bid.

Copart Canada Fee Examples

Every row is a Live bid with no broker fee, taxed on bid + fees as described above:

Bid (CAD)Province · paymentFees + taxAll-in cost% of bid
$1,000Ontario 13% · secured$704.04$1,704.0470.4%
$3,000Ontario 13% · secured$1,280.44$4,280.4442.7%
$3,000Alberta 5% · secured$977.40$3,977.4032.6%
$3,000Ontario 13% · unsecured$1,478.19$4,478.1949.3%
$5,000Quebec 14.975% · secured$1,838.71$6,838.7136.8%
$20,000Ontario 13% · secured$4,507.44$24,507.4422.5%

The three $3,000 rows are the same vehicle. Moving from Ontario to Alberta saves $303.04, all of it tax; paying by card instead of a secured method costs $197.75, of which $175 is the fee itself and the rest is the tax on that fee. And the fee-and-tax share falls as the bid rises — 70.4% of a $1,000 bid against 22.5% of a $20,000 one — because below $15,000 the buyer fee is a flat bracket amount rather than a percentage.

How to Reduce Copart Canada Fees

  1. Pay by a secured method

The unsecured column is higher at all 38 brackets — $600 against $775 on a $3,000 bid — and from $15,000 the rate is 7.25% against 12.25%. This is the largest single saving available to a private buyer.

  2. Know your province’s rate before you bid

Tax is 5% in Alberta and the territories but up to 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and PEI. On a $3,000 win that spread is $303.04.

  3. Use a Pre-Bid where you can

A Pre-Bid’s virtual bid fee is about $10 lower than a Live bid across the brackets, and the tax on it comes down with it.

  4. Ask the yard for its storage and payment terms in writing

They are not on the published fee schedule, so the only figure you can rely on is the one your yard gives you. Get it before you bid, not after the free window closes.

  5. Budget with the all-in total, not the bid

Fees and tax are 70.4% of a $1,000 bid. Run the number here first and set a maximum bid that keeps the whole total inside your budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

On a C$3,000 Live bid paid by a secured method, Copart’s own fees are C$788 — a $600 buyer fee, a $99 virtual bid fee, the $79 gate fee and the $10 environmental fee. Add 13% Ontario HST on the bid plus fees and the all-in cost is C$4,280.44, which is 42.7% of the bid. In Alberta the same car comes to C$3,977.40.

Yes — GST, HST or GST+PST depending on your province, from 5% in Alberta and the territories up to 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and PEI. Ontario is 13% and Quebec is 14.975%. Copart itemises tax as its own invoice line but does not state whether it applies to the bid alone or to the bid plus fees; this calculator taxes bid plus fees, which is the higher of the two.

Not as a published, automatic charge. No official Copart Canada page lists a vehicle-history fee or a title fee as a line item on every sale, and this calculator no longer adds them — it used to, which made every total $57.60 too high. Copart does sell a separate Vehicle Condition Report as an optional extra; if you order one, add its price yourself.

It is the main charge, tiered across 38 brackets and priced separately for secured and unsecured payment. On a secured payment it is $340 at a $1,000 bid, $600 at $3,000 and $750 at $5,000; unsecured, the same brackets are $390, $775 and $1,000. From $15,000 up it becomes 7.25% of the bid secured, or 12.25% unsecured.

Yes, at every bid level. Copart Canada publishes separate secured and unsecured buyer-fee tables and the unsecured figure is higher at all 38 brackets — $775 against $600 on a $3,000 bid, which becomes $197.75 once provincial tax is added in Ontario. Above $15,000 the rates are 12.25% against 7.25%.

The gate fee is $79 on every sale and is flat — Canada has no clean-title and non-clean-title split like the US. The environmental fee is $10, lower than the US $15. Both are added to every sale and both are included in this calculator’s total.

Late-payment, storage and relist charges exist, but Copart does not publish them on its Canadian fee schedule — the deadline and the amounts come from the Member Terms, the yard and your invoice. Any specific figure you see quoted on a third-party Copart fee site is unsourced, so ask your yard for its terms before you bid rather than budgeting from a number you cannot check.

Copart does not publish membership fees or a deposit amount on any official Canada page, and they should not be assumed to match the US $99 Basic / $249 Premier figures. Check the price when you register. Membership is separate from the per-sale fees in this calculator.

No. The Canadian buyer-fee table is its own schedule in Canadian dollars, the gate fee is a flat $79 with no clean/non-clean split, and the environmental fee is $10 rather than $15. Canada also adds provincial sales tax, which the US does not have. The percentage that replaces the table above $15,000 is 7.25% secured, against 7.50% for a non-clean title in the US.
